The fight took place Saturday evening at the DC Armory. There were eight fights on the card and guess who got to start the night off with a bolt of excitement?
Our very own, Coach Buck Grant, had the opening honors. His opponent from Capital Jiu Jitsu, undefeated 5-0 Taylor Dixon, and Coach Grant had the entire place in a roar. Coach Grant came out first to the cage and was greeted by 4 rows of screaming Hybrid Academy students, instructors, and fans. Then Taylor was introduced with just as many, if not more screaming fans.
After a very respectful touch of the gloves, it was GO TIME! Only a few seconds passed as the men were feeling out their range. Coach Grant got hit with a stiff jab. It seemed to us that Taylor had turned on the “switch” that woke up the beast within. Coach Grant answered with a three punch combo that sent Taylor in awe, looking as though he had never been hit so hard in his life! A few more exchanges made, and they were clinched and on the cage jockeying for position, exchanging knees and position control. With double under hooks in place, a failed takedown attempt by Taylor left him on his back with Coach Grant in his guard. Coach Grant stayed busy the entire time, dropping bombs on Taylor.
When the opportunity allowed some elbows landed over Taylors brow that left him with a HUGE cut and made him a bloody mess!
The fight ended with Coach Grant tight waisting Taylor against the cage while he was in a turtle position. Coach delivered numerous punches to the head, took a breather and landed a knee to the body that made the entire place yell “UUUUUUUH”, and finally the ref stopped the madness at 3:52 of round 1.
We are all very proud of our Coach / Mentor / Friend, Mr. Buck Grant. He is an inspiration to the entire team.
