It is estimated that about 160,000 kids miss school everyday for fear of bully attacks and over 71 percent of children report bullying as a problem in their schools. As parents, we do our best to give our child every tool to be successful, but when they go out into the world we have very little control over what they experience. Unfortunately, bullying is at an all time high and more then anything we just want our child to be safe. I have developed a class that will help your child cope with the threat of bullying and how to defend themselves. This course will educate your child on picking up on the signs of bullying, how to communicate with adults about bullying and non-violent ways to protect themselves. Take the opportunity to give the child in your family a tool to protect themselves. This course is for kids 6-14 yrs. of age and at a cost of only $50. Please RSVP at Hybrid Training Center by Sept.30 by check or cash. We hope to see you and your child there.
A warrior is defined by their ability to fight the odds that face them. By nature, when adversity rears its nasty head, they are more apt to run towards danger, rather than away from it. Their courage inspires others around them to rise to the occasion. They lead by example. Their will is their sword. Their courage is their shield.
Chris Babcock personifies the word in every way imaginable.
Her martial arts accolades read like the resume of a world champion. As a young
girl, she competed in USA
boxing with 14 fights (12-2-0) to her name, winning the Golden Gloves award.
She is a purple belt under the Machado family in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and won
the Gold at the International level. As a full Kru (teacher) and fighter
(13-1-0 record) in Muay Thai, she fought in New Mexico
and Texas as
a pioneer to females in the sport. She hold’s instructor ranks in Combat
Submission Wrestling (under Erik Paulson, coach to WWE turned UFC fighter Brock
Lesner), Filipino Martial Arts (under Dan Inosanto, Bruce Lee’s protégée) and
Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee’s art.) She even stepped in the ring as a professional
MMA fighter back in 2004 for a championship fight with only a weeks notice. She
has accomplished all of this while earning college degrees in animal science,
biotechnology and biochemistry from Oklahoma State University.
Needless to say, Chris embodies the word “Warrior.”
But now days, her fight is a different one. Her fight is
quite simply for her life. Battling Brain Cancer for the last year and several
bouts of chemotherapy, she has lost her job, her insurance, and most of her
money. She fights all of this while raising her beautiful 3 year old daughter
alone.
Yet if you were to meet Chris, you would never know her
problems. Aside from her missing head of hair (which she sports beautifully by
the way) she shows no signs of a down trodden individual, quite the opposite actually.
Her personality is that of a comedian, and her smile lights up a room. She
jokes of her cancer as if it was a punch line in a sitcom, relieving any unease
of the subject in her presence. As a coach, she inspires men and women to go
beyond what they feel they are capable of, and on her good days, she grapples
on the mat with us like she’s in the heat of a fight camp, all the while with a
smile on her face.
She needs money for her cancer treatment and it isn’t cheap.
She cannot work and was fired from her job because of her Cancer. There are no
guarantees in life, except for death. We all face this at some point in our
lives. She’s young however, and without our help may not see her own daughter
grow up. It’s that simple. She needs our help!
I’ve called her “Sissy” since I can remember, because she is
like family to me. We’ve slept on gym floors in Cali,
fought side by side in New York,
and laughed till we cried for hours together. Any fight that she has ever been
in, I’ve been on her side and now I am asking that you be on her side as well. Please
click the link below and donate what you can to her cause.
She is a warrior who is fighting for her life. Please don’t
let her fight alone.
Due to the approaching hurricane and concern for your safety Hybrid will be closed this Saturday and Sunday. We will re-open Monday for classes unless otherwise stated.
Please check your facebook, email, twitter, and our website for updates.

Congrats to our fighters that participated in the Bushido Smoker on April 23, 2011. As usual, Hybrid was represented well with great talent and skill from all our fighters!!! We are so proud!!!!!! Thomas started the event working technique and and putting on a show of his personally developed style. He set the bar for the rest of the evening with a jump spinning back kick. The crowd erupted and welcomed our own Kru Lisa into the ring. Lisa decided to fight the minute she walked through the door to help out Bushido’s 16 yr old Erin. She showed unmeasurable sportsman ship and talent by using her hands to set up her feet. The 7thbout of the night, with Jeff Peterson, was three rounds of the clinch. Jeff’s defence was on point but taught us all that using your corners as an offensive tool is just as important as defence in any fight. Vincent was the co-main event of the evening and set us up for the final fight with a display of poise. Vinny searched for every shot and showed us just how good a fighter can be at anticipating an opponents next move. The main event of the evening was a show of pro’s; heavy hands, sweeps, and a vicious clinch (which involved a few groin shots) and a an unstoppable determination. Well done Buckner, well done.
