Congratulations to Chase ‘The Weapon” Walden and Shawn “The Scrapper” Steen, our new WKA U.S Muay Thai Champions. Both athletes competed weekend at the Combat Sports Challenge 29 in Hampton Virginia against highly respected and competitive schools of 5 Points Gym and Team Haycraft. Instructors Chase and Shawn both took their opponents the distance of 5 rounds in very competitive bouts, each winning by decision. Congrats to our novice competitors as well for fighting this weekend. John “Law Dawg” Scamrodella won his Muay Thai debut by knockout in round 3, after rallying from being dropped twice himself in the first round. Eric Wensel lost his debut by knockout in the second round, after putting on an impressive display of Muay Thai skills in the first round. Lisa Cuellar, lost a majority decision in a razor close match, a few days after her 40th birthday.
Special congrats also go to Kevin Stanley and Bob Francis for competing in the CSC 29 grappling tournament that evening. Bob won gold in the blue belt absolute division,won silver in the no-gi division, and competed extremely well in the open belt division against purple and brown belts. Kevin meanwhile made his submission grappling and BJJ debut, winning gold in the gi white belt division.
We’re proud of our veteran and rookie squad for stepping in the ring, testing their skills, and pushing their emotional and physical limits. Win or lose, they represented Team Hybrid well.
