February 21st, 2010

Congratulations to Chase ‘The Weapon” Walden and Shawn “The Scrapper” Steen, our new WKA U.S Muay Thai Champions. Both athletes competed weekend at the Combat Sports Challenge 29 in Hampton Virginia against highly respected and competitive schools of 5 Points Gym and Team Haycraft. Instructors Chase and Shawn both took their opponents the distance of 5 rounds in very competitive bouts, each winning by decision. Each displayed their own unique, beautiful style of Muay Thai in an impressive fashion. To watch their full bouts, go to our YOUTUBE PAGE.

Congrats to our novice competitors as well for fighting this weekend. John “Law Dawg” Scamrodella won his Muay Thai debut by knockout in round 3, after rallying from being dropped twice himself in the first round. Eric Wensel lost his debut by knockout in the second round, after putting on an impressive display of Muay Thai skills in the first round. Lisa Cuellar, lost a majority decision in a razor close match, a few days after her 40th birthday.

Special congrats also go to Kevin Stanley and Bob Francis for competing in the CSC 29 grappling tournament that evening. Bob won gold in the blue belt absolute division, won silver in the no-gi division, and competed extremely well in the open belt division against purple and brown belts. Kevin meanwhile made his submission grappling and BJJ debut, winning gold in the gi white belt division.

We’re proud of our veteran and rookie squad for stepping in the ring, testing their skills, and pushing their emotional and physical limits. Win or lose, they represented Team Hybrid well.

Muay Thai Sparring Course a Success

January 23rd, 2010

Congratulations to all of our students who just completed the Muay Thai Sparring Course at the Hybrid Training Center this weekend. Coach Chase Walden has done an amazing job of preparing these intermediate level students for our Advanced Muay Thai class, led by Team Hybrid Head Coach Buck Grant.

The Hybrid Training Center implements the Hybrid Kickboxing System, a Muay Thai curriculum devised by Kru Buck Grant. This system is responsible for cultivating great fighters such as UFC Veteran Brandon “The Truth” Vera, Pro Muay Thai fighter Shawn Yarborough, Strikeforce Light Heavyweight contender Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt, as well as our very own Muay Thai Champions Chase “The Weapon” Walden (who now teaches our Sparring Course), Elliot Anderson, Kim “The Stalker” Smith and Shawn “Lil Scrappy” Steen.
