Instrusctor Oates was given the honors at the Ribiero’s annual gathering in San Diego California this weekend.
On behalf of the entire HTC, we want applaud our instructor for his commitment to excellence. The road to a BJJ black belt is a long and hard journey, especially under the tutelage world champions Saulo and Xande Ribiero. Scott joins the lineage of the few and the proud who have stayed the course of excellence. We couldn’t be more proud of him!
“A Black Belt is a White Belt that never quit!” As the saying goes. Instructor Oates has inspired us all to follow that mantra. It will be an honor for all of us to continue training under his guidance.

Word from the champ:
Hello everybody and Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Brothers. ADCC was definitely a great experience, we had a great team. Rani, Rader (66kg), Kron (77kg), Lavato Jr (88kg), Me (99kg) and Saulo +99kg) and Penny (+66kg). Rader and Kron lost on the first day, but had great performances. There were a few upsets on the second day, but in the end we showed great Team work.
Speaking for myself, I won my division, and as a strategist, I tried not to waste energy and I won my division and did not give 100% yet because I knew I was going into the Absolute finals. We can’t deny destiny, I was strong and fresh to battle 20 minutes, but unfortunately I suffered a stretched chest muscle which made me quit in the finals. Sometimes we are so spoiled and want to do great and get mad at the loss and don’t see that in the end I won my division and I am now happy and grateful that I got my second ADCC title.
I don’t know how serious my injury is yet, but I can move my arm in certain angles but have no power. This means no MMA for this year, now it is time to see my child birth, heal, teach and take care of you guys and come back ever stronger.
Thanks to all of you for the support, I am really blessed to have all of you as friends, family and disciples; that is the true accomplishment in my life. I know a lot of you lost a day of sleep and I really appreciate that. I will see you guys at the annual and for those that can’t make it, I’ll be in Toledo for a seminar on November 28th and will be available for Semi-Private classes – (2 – 4 people). More details to come!!
Hope all is well and my sincere thanks! See you soon, Xande.
Other ADCC notes:
Penny placed second, and Saulo and Rafeal placed fourth. It was a great showing by the Team. Saulo was not scored on even though he fought in the heaviest division and retired from professional competition to focus on coaching, the UNJJ and the Association.
