Nearly two years ago, the “Team Hybrid” name was unknown on the grappling circuit. This weekend that all changed. Our BJJ and Submission Grappling team took the NAGA (North American Grapplers Association) tournament by storm at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton VA. Team Hybrid coaches Matt Schwaner and Scott Horne competed alongside our student competitors against the fiercest competiton in Hampton Roads. Our students, both kids and adults, as well as staff shined brightly under the expert coaching of Ribeiro BJJ Black Belt Scott Oates, with the assistance of Ribeiro BJJ Brown Belt and instructor Steve Nelson.
In the end, Team Hybrid/ Ribeiro BJJ won 8 Gold, 8 Silver, and 1 Bronze Medals, proving that the HTC is a forced to be reckoned with in ALL aspects of MMA. Congratulations to our grappling warriors for doing us proud.

After 2 hours of the most grueling and rigorous testing known to martial arts, The Ribeiro BJJ family has added 3 new Purple Belts to the ranks. Adam Terry, Brandon Sing, and Kevin Parker had to battle over 20 trained brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners on their path through what BJJ Black Belt and head coach Scott Oates called “The hardest Hell Test to date,” in Ribeiro BJJ history. Though bloodied, battered, and pushed beyond exhaustion, no one quit. They earned their rank through a trial of fire. Welcome to the family gentleman!
