Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu October Newsletter

October 8th, 2009

 Word from the champ:

Hello everybody and Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Brothers. ADCC was definitely a great experience, we had a great team. Rani, Rader (66kg), Kron (77kg), Lavato Jr (88kg), Me (99kg) and Saulo +99kg) and Penny (+66kg). Rader and Kron lost on the first day, but had great performances. There were a few upsets on the second day, but in the end we showed great Team work.

Speaking for myself, I won my division, and as a strategist, I tried not to waste energy and I won my division and did not give 100% yet because I knew I was going into the Absolute finals. We can’t deny destiny, I was strong and fresh to battle 20 minutes, but unfortunately I suffered a stretched chest muscle which made me quit in the finals. Sometimes we are so spoiled and want to do great and get mad at the loss and don’t see that in the end I won my division and I am now happy and grateful that I got my second ADCC title.

I don’t know how serious my injury is yet, but I can move my arm in certain angles but have no power. This means no MMA for this year, now it is time to see my child birth, heal, teach and take care of you guys and come back ever stronger.

Thanks to all of you for the support, I am really blessed to have all of you as friends, family and disciples; that is the true accomplishment in my life. I know a lot of you lost a day of sleep and I really appreciate that. I will see you guys at the annual and for those that can’t make it, I’ll be in Toledo for a seminar on November 28th and will be available for Semi-Private classes – (2 – 4 people). More details to come!!

Hope all is well and my sincere thanks! See you soon, Xande.

 Other ADCC notes:

Penny placed second, and Saulo and Rafeal placed fourth. It was a great showing by the Team. Saulo was not scored on even though he fought in the heaviest division and retired from professional competition to focus on coaching, the UNJJ and the Association.  I want to congratulate him on an awesome career as a top competitor in BJJ and submission wrestling; we will miss watching you, but will be thanking you for helping us to improve ourselves and the TEAM(s)!!

Saulo and the UNIJJ Team competed at the American Nationals on the weekend of September, 19th. Saulo won the Ultra Heavy Master and Open Division. UNIJJ won the Team championship as well!! Go to ibjjf.org for all the results.

With a record of 24-2, Diego is going to fight for the UFC lightweight title against BJ Penn. The fight is schedule for December 12th; train hard bro and bring home the title!!!

Our annual tourney will be October 10th in San Diego. Everything is set and it looks to be a great turn out and event, see you there!!

Regis Lebre just opened an academy in San Diego as well. The website is www.graciecompetitionteam.com. Those who have learned from Regis can testify to how good his BJJ is. If you are in the area, don’t miss a chance to learn from him!!

To contact Saulo or Xande, go to www.unijj.com (University of Jiu-Jitsu website!!!)

To contact the Arena (mma/no gi academy) go to thearenamma.com. It is only 3 or so store fronts from the UNIJJ. You will want to check it out when you visit San Diego!
