It is that time again! June 4th will mark our 2nd Quarterly Muay Thai Belt Testing for 2010. Come support your friends and family as they move up to their next rank. Testing at the HTC has always been more of a celebration rather than a test. The hard work and dedication has already been shown to get them this far, so come celebrate their achievements. All students, family members and guests are welcomed so don’t miss out!
Testing will start at 6pm. All students testing must be at the HTC no later than 545pm. Students are encouraged to arrive as early as 530pm to warm up and review testing combinations with fellow students and instructors. THERE WILL BE NO MUAY THAI CLASSES ON FRIDAY.
Flexibility is the most ignored part of the CrossFit ten general skills set and something we all need to work on. We avoid stretching either because of the discomfort or because the stretches we have all been taught were ineffective. Rob will teach simple, easy to use stretches that can be applied immediately. PNF stretches are fast, effective, and a proven method for restoring mobility and enhancing performance.
Rob is a 2002 graduate of the Cayce/Reilly School of Massotherapy, an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, and a CrossFit Level 2 Trainer. Post graduate education also includes Myofascial Release Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, and Medical Massage.
Rob combines a unique background in strength and conditioning and soft tissue therapy to provide a comprehensive treatment approach to the evaluation and treatment of pain relief and movement dysfunction.
Local Wrestling Coach Frank Lipoli hosts “Grassroots MMA”, a Mixed Martial Arts TV Show which highlights local MMA in Hampton Roads on WSKY Channel 4. Hybrid Training Center, Coach Buck Grant, and Strikeforce Veteran Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt were highlighted on the show right before Antwain’s epic battle with Feijao Cavalcante on Showtime.
Congratulations to Stacy Grant for being awarded the title of Kru Muay under Master Toddy this past weekend. Kru is the title for “Teacher’ in Muay Thai, and no one embodies that title more than Kru Stacy. As the first pro female MMA fighter in Virginia and and active Muay Thai fighter and coach, Stacy has motivated and inspired our entire team of fighting females (and males for that matter.) Kru Stacy (alongside Kru Buck Grant) has taken an all female team of thai fighters twice in the past few years to fight Muay Thai in Vegas. Our team competed impressively against the West Coast’s best female amateur fighters at Master Toddy’s “Fight Girls” events, largely due to Kru Stacy’s coaching and mentoring.
Kru Stacy is one of a very few female Kru’s under Master Toddy. Stacy (along with her husband Kru Buck) have been asked to accompany Master Toddy to Thailand in December to showcase her Thai Pad holding skills and to train with some of the best Thai born coaches in the world.
Following her footsteps, congratulations are also in order for our new Assistant Krus, Chase Walden, Kim Smith, Phillip Wyman, and Jose Roman. All instructors have been mentoring under Kru Buck for years before they embarked on the instructor course this past Sunday and Monday. Over 24 hours of training was logged in the course of this weekend, directly under the expert eye of Master Toddy.
Also occuring this weekend was a phenomenal Fighter Course and All Levels Training Session. nearly 40 students attended the 6 hours of training. Instructors form local schools such as Bushido MMA, IMPACT Martial Arts, and Team Agguire Mua Thai, were also in attendance to train with a Muay Thai legend.
Continuously raising the gold standard of Muay Thai on the East Coast has been Kru Buck’s passion for over 15 years. He continues to do so by sharing the knowledge of his Grand Master with his top students and teachers.
Come learn REAL Muay Thai from certified instructors and champions at the Hybrid Training Center!
Congratulations to Van Hall, Steve Anderson, Andrew Clark, Peterson, Brian Wenger, and John Scamordella for successfully passing their Blue Blet Test for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Instructor and Saulo Ribiero Black Belt Scott Oates once again held his group to a high standard during the rigorous and technical testing of our new Blue Belts.
The Brazilian Jiu-jitsu family at the HTC has grown from a small club of white belts, to a university of BJJ practitioners of all ranks, blue, purple, and brown alike. Come be a part of our team!
Congratulations to new Team Hybrid fighterLee Marvin Rahrlein won his MMA fight at Knock-Em-Out Nation in Chesapeake VA this Friday, May 19th at the Khedive Templar. Lee took the fight with only a weeks notice and still managed to defeat his opponent in 2 minutes 30 second of round 1 via rear naked choke.
Lee is fresh off of a victory at Modern Gladiators in April, defeating another local from Modern Academy of Mixed Martial Arts with very short notice and little training. Lee shows great promise as a fighter and Team Hybrid Head Coach Buck Grant is looking forward to properly training him for future fights to come.
In an epic battle of will, stamina, and skill, Coach Chris “The Irish Pitbull” Bucknerwins his third professional fight against American Top Team featherweight Jahmal McLennam at The Battle of the Legends in Washington DC. In a back and forth war, Buckner survived a near knockout scenario in the 2nd round, only to come back and knockout Jahmal in the third and final round.

Special congratulations to Matt “The Gutter” Van Burenfor winning his pro debut at Battle of the Legends as well, defeating Manny Okorie.
Though loosing at Strikeforce “Heavy Artillery” to Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt fought well in his television (Showtime) debut. Rather than fighting safe, Antwain took the fight to Feijao early, nearly knocking him out before getting caught himself.
Team Hybrid takes pride in going toe-to-toe with the best fight camps in the world. The entire Hybrid Training Center is proud of our true to life warrior who “Go out on their Shield” every fight. Go Team Hybrid!
