Saulo is going to compete this weekend along with a strong team in the American National Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Carson, CA. Best of luck to him and the Team!! Go to ibjjf.org for all the details.

With a record of 24-2, Diego is going to fight for the UFC lightweight title against BJ Penn. The fight is schedule for December 12th; train hard bro and bring home the title!!!

Saulo, Xande, Rany Yahya, Rafeal Lovato Jr, Kron Gracie, Justin Rader and Penny Thomas all are training together and competing in the ADCC on September 27th weekend. We want to wish them the best of luck in their training and competition. Saulo, Xande, Rany and Penny have already won World Titles in this prestigious NO GI event; not a bad group to train with. Steve Maxwell is helping with their strength and conditioning as well. You can check some of the training out on you tube by searching Steve’s name.

It looks as though Xande may be fighting in Sengoku in November, we will keep you posted.

Our annual tourney will be, October 10th in San Diego. Please plan for a great trip to sunny California!! The association owners will be getting info emailed to them shortly.

Regis Lebre just opened an academy in San Diego as well. The website is www.graciecompetitionteam.com. Those who have learned from Regis can testify to how good his BJJ is. If you are in the area, don’t miss a chance to learn from him!!

As you can see Saulo and Xande are not only achieving awesome things for themselves, but others as well. It is nice they can affect so many lives in a positive manner.

To contact Saulo or Xande, go to www.unijj.com (University of Jiu-Jitsu website!!!)

To contact the Arena (mma/no gi academy) go to thearenamma.com. It is only 3 or so store fronts from the UNIJJ. You will want to check it out when you visit San Diego!

Remember, a Black Belt is a White Belt who never quits!! Until next month, Chris Blanke

“The Juggernaut’s” Iron Man Performance in Aruba

September 9th, 2009

Vendetta Fighting Championships

Aruba, September 5th

Antwain Britt and Coach Grant traveled to the island of Aruba to compete in an 8 man, mixed martial arts, light heavyweight tournament  Saturday, September 5th.  facing world class competition, “The Juggernaut” was able to defeat two opponents that night before losing in the finals.

Carmelo Morero, a UFC veteran was Antwain’s first opponent. Britt was able to pick Morero apart and fight off the wrestlers attack by keeping him off balance with superior lateral footwork and lightning fast hand speed. Though Morero scored a take down in the second, forcing the fight into an over time round, Antwain’s attributes allowed him to control the range of the fight, winning by unanimous decision.

In the second round of the tournament, Antwain battled Richard Hale, a 6 ft 4in specimen of an athlete with outstanding footwork and tremendous reach. Britt’s footwork once again dictated the fight, allowing him to bridge the distance quickly and land is hand combinations. it was a classical match up of boxer versus kick boxer where the boxer in Britt prevailed by unanimous decision, though sustaining a cut underneath his left eye.

In the finals, after hours of fighting and waiting, Antwain lost to Rodney Watson from Team R.O.C  of North Carolina by armlock round 1.

Not many fighters can claim to have a fought in tournament style MMA. Antwain showed amazing resolve, perseverance, and intestinal fortitude as he battled 3 men in one night. Outstanding job Juggernaut. Next stop…STRIKEFORCE IN OCTOBER!

GO TEAM HYBRID!
